Dear 2019,
Thank you for the perfectly-imperfect journey.
We went everywhere from Hong Kong to the hospital. We learned a tremendous amount and asked plenty of questions along the way. We made difficult decisions and worked through dispiriting, gritty moments. We also laughed (a lot) and felt that vivacious and commanding force that picks us up & tells us to keep going even when it’s tough.
We spent time with friends over good food, great wine, and conversations that left us feeling emotionally and intellectually quenched. We found a little more peace in those places (walks in the park), spaces (therapy) and within those people who simply wanted to help. Through that, just like every year, we nestled into a stronger sense of self that only solidifies over time and through life experience.
I can imagine 2020 will exude many of the same qualities as you. We will have work to finish, planes to catch, books to read, opportunities to snatch, challenges to overcome, news to devour, matcha to drink, thoughts to write, people to love. We’ll fuck up (guaranteed) and fix it (hopefully). We’ll weed out more of the negative and create space for the unexpected. We’ll keep trying really hard. We’ll make the absolute most of it.
Wishing you all the health and happiness in 2020.
